NANNUP TIMBER PROCESSING, CONTRACTS
Further to my question without notice of Tuesday 4 December, I ask - (1) Will the minister please table a copy of the contract/s with Nannup Timber Processing which applies until 31 December 2001? If not, why not? (2) Will the minister confirm the volumes supplied have been with the contract specifications? (3) Does the contract specify that the supply of first and second grade jarrah sawlogs for this same period is 20 000 cubic metres? (4) If yes - (a) why is the manager of the same small mill saying publicly, “We will now phase down in May from 38 000 to 20 000 cubic metres” as reported in the November Nannup Post and Rail on page 4; (b) will the minister confirm that it is unnecessary to log blocks within Dalgarup Forest before the completion of the high conservation value forest assessment in order to maintain supplies to Nannup Timber Processing? (5) If no - (a) what volume of jarrah sawlogs does the contract specify; (b) if it is above 20 000 cubic metres, why has the minister agreed to an allocation additional to the 20 000 cubic metres committed under the Regional Forest Agreement of 1999; (c) why did the minister tell the House on 4 December that until 31 December the supply to Nannup will be within the contracted volume, and on 23 August that the contract with Nannup Timber Processing provides for the annual supply of 20 000 cubic metres of first and second grade sawlogs? (b) The Regional Forest Agreement provided for a sustained yield level of 324 000 cubic metres of jarrah first and second-grade sawlogs averaged over the period 1999 to 2003, and the Forest Products Commission is managing the level of harvest within these levels. (c) I refer the member to schedule 1 of contract 2629 and to the whole of my answer to question 447 of 23 August. The member’s quotation in 5(c) today is not complete.
