DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION — LAND RESERVES —
CITY OF SWAN
778. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for
Planning:
(1) Is the
minister aware that as a result of a decision by the Department of Education
not to proceed to develop schools on land reserved for that purpose in the City
of Swan the city increased developer contributions to cover the costs of
recreation space that otherwise would have been shared between the contribution
of the Department of Education and the city for shared open space attached to
schools?
(2) Does the
minister agree that landowners should be forced to pay more for infrastructure
that the Department of Education has committed to contribute to?
(3) Is this not a
breakdown in the proper planning relationship between the Department of
Planning and the Department of Education?

(1)–(3) That
was quite an extensive question. I will have to take it on notice. There is
very good communication between the Department of Planning and the Department
of Education on land use planning matters. That is for not only the Department
of Education, but also other portfolios when it has relevance to the planning
portfolio. I ask the member to put the question on notice.
