I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) The Munda
Biddi trail was completed in 2013 and extends from Mundaring to Albany. The
Department of Parks and Wildlife manages the trail with assistance from the
Munda Biddi Trail Foundation. The department has allocated $65 000 to Munda
Biddi long-trail maintenance and $25 000 for a service agreement with the Munda
Biddi Trail Foundation. Approximately one full-time equivalent position from
Parks and Wildlife is involved with the ongoing trail management in support of
over 100 volunteers and 50 business sponsors actively engaged with the trail
through the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation. The department also deploys district
field staff for various day-to-day management and maintenance functions along
the trail.
(2) In 2010–11,
when the trail was only half completed, there were 26 000 user days recorded in
a Munda Biddi user survey. The Department of Parks and Wildlife estimates that
this number has increased by at least 50 per cent since the trail was
completed, to approximately 40 000 user days.
 (3) Yes. Promotion is undertaken by the Munda
Biddi Trail Foundation and Department of Parks and Wildlife. The Munda Biddi
trail was listed in the national geographic top 10 world cycle routes and
promoted on its website. It has also been previously nominated in the WA
tourism awards for its contribution to regional economies and tourism.
(4) Department
of Parks and Wildlife fund the trail. No funding is provided by the Department
of Sport and Recreation.
