❓ A WA parliamentary question addresses a $2.1 million offset related to the Fremantle port rail service, querying the government's strategy, subsidy changes, container rail targets, and the impact of the global financial crisis. The government acknowledges the impact of the GFC and states it will seek to maximise the proportion of containers on rail.

TREASURER’S ADVANCE — FREMANTLE PORT RAIL
I refer to the $2.1 million offset for deferral of the Fremantle port rail service listed in the document detailing the Treasurer’s advance excesses and new items. (1) How does the government expect this offset to be achieved? (2) Will this offset require any change to the rate of subsidy paid for containers moved by rail; and, if so, what will be the change? (3) What percentage of containers does the government expect will be carried by rail from Fremantle port this financial year? (4) Does the government still have a target of 30 per cent of containers carried by rail by 2013; and, if yes, how does it expect to achieve it? Hon SIMON O’BRIEN
