The Government is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the development of the Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy (CCAMS) and the
Energy2031
Strategic Energy Initiative.
CCAMS will assess the likely impacts and risks of climate change to the economy and to communities and make recommendations for mitigation and adaptation actions. It will outline a greenhouse gas mitigation strategy that complements national policy and is designed to achieve emission abatement in the most economically responsible manner.
One of the key goals of
Energy2031
is cleaner energy which aims to ensure energy production and use are compatible with good environmental stewardship and minimise carbon emissions.
Climate change emission reduction has been achieved through application of the Environmental Protection Authority's Guidance Statement No. 12 to require proponents to apply best practice to project proposals to maximise energy efficiency and minimise emissions.
The Government has also continued to support the development of low emissions technology through the Low Emissions Energy Development fund.
