There are no current plans to close the Department of Communities (Communities) building in Mullewa. Communities periodically reviews its assets to ensure they meet the agency’s operational requirements, and is still in early stages of exploring options for the longer-term use of the building given there are no Communities staff currently based at or using the building.
The Youth and Family support service previously provided by a Communities staff member at the Mullewa office continues to be delivered from the Geraldton office. The relocation of this service to the Geraldton office was due to the low demand in Mullewa. Communities continues to provide child protection responses to Mullewa when required, from the Geraldton office.
Any change of use for the building would undergo a full consultative approach with groups using the premises.
