With regard to the significant heritage value and petroglyphs of the Burrup Peninsular, their surrounding islands and potential World Heritage values -
(1) Have there been any systematic archaeological and ethnographic surveys of the Burrup Peninsular or the surrounding islands?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Has the Government considered carrying out systematic archaeological and ethnographic surveys of the Burrup Peninsular and surrounding islands?
(4) If yes to (3), what was the result of such deliberation, and can the Minister table any evidence of such deliberations?
(5) If no to (3), why not?
(6) Will the Government have to carry out archaeological and ethnographic surveys of the Burrup Peninsular and surrounding islands prior to Federal Government nomination of the area for World Heritage listing?

(6) The possible nomination of the Burrup Peninsula and surrounding islands for World Heritage listing will be the subject of consideration by a proposed ‘Burrup Heritage Committee’ agreed under the provisions of the ‘Burrup and Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement Additional Deed’. The need for additional archaeological or ethnographic surveys will be a matter for consideration by that Committee in consultation with appropriate State and Commonwealth Government agencies.
