(a) how much was allocated in the 2010–2011 Budget for this camp;
(b) how much land has been allocated for construction of a hostel or camp at One Mile;
(c) when is it expected to be completed;
(d) will the local indigenous community be consulted about the construction of the hostel; and
(e) how else does the Government plan to address the high number of people visiting Broome without accommodation?

(a) An allocation of $12.5 million has been made to the Department of Housing for the construction of a managed visitor accommodation facility at One Mile.
(b) The actual area within the reserve to be allocated for construction will be subject to negotiations with the Nillirr Irbanjin Aboriginal Corporation, which holds the lease for One Mile.
(c) Subject to access to the land being successfully negotiated, construction of the facility by the Department of Housing is expected to be completed by December 2012.
(d) Yes, consultation will be undertaken by the Department of Housing (in conjunction with the Department of Indigenous Affairs, representing the Aboriginal Lands Trust) with the residents of One Mile, the Nillirr Irbanjin Aboriginal Corporation and the wider Yawuru community.
(e) The provision of a hostel and a dry camping area is the first step in resolving this issue. The State Government will continue to work with stakeholders to address matters around visitor accommodation.
