MINISTER FOR POLICE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES - MEETING WITH ADAM SPAGNOLO AND TONY DRAGO
Notwithstanding that no minister is directly responsible for the Corruption and Crime Commission, I refer the minister representing the Premier to the CCC Act, which states that one of the CCC’s lawful obligations is to pursue evidence of public corruption. (1) Is the Premier concerned by the apparent failure of the CCC to interview the Minister for Police and Emergency Services following the meeting between Mr D’Orazio, Mr Spagnolo and Mr Drago, a meeting of which the CCC was aware beforehand and about which it had testimony from the two other parties? (2) Is the Premier concerned at the failure of the CCC to interview the police minister as a witness in its corruption case against Mr Adam Spagnolo, as Mr D’Orazio may have corroborated Mr Drago’s testimony as given at the public hearing last year? (3) Does the Premier agree that the CCC’s failure to approach the police minister for a statement following the meeting, despite its knowledge of the meeting, may be interpreted as action designed to protect the minister? If not, why not? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. As the CCC is an independent investigative body, the Premier is not willing to engage in commentary as to how it undertakes its investigation.
