COMMISSIONER
FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE — 2011 MENTAL HEALTH REPORT
1089. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
Minister for Mental Health:
I refer to the Commissioner for Children and Young People's
2011 ''Report of the inquiry into the mental health and wellbeing of
children and young people in WA'', which recommends —
The State Government provide
funding for the regular conduct of the Telethon Institute for Child Health
Research's Child Health Survey and for this survey to be conducted in
Western Australia every three years.
(1) Will the state government be providing this funding?
(2) If yes to (1), how much will be provided, and when?
(3) If no to (1), why not?

I thank the member for some notice of the question. Initially
when I got this question, I thought that the answer was not acceptable.
However, I did go and find out some more information about this.
(1) The Mental Health Commission does not provide this
funding, as it falls under the responsibility of the Department of Health.
The
recommendation states —
The State Government provide
funding for the regular conduct of the Telethon Institute for Child Health
Research's Child Health Survey and for this survey to be conducted in
Western Australia every three years.
That is specific to Health. The Department of Health does
that.
Hon
Sally Talbot : But this is
about mental health.
Hon HELEN MORTON : I am just saying to the member that her
question was about whether the state government will be providing this
funding. The member needs to get that information from the Department of
Health. The answer continues —
(2) Not Applicable.
(3) The Mental Health Commission has not been asked to
provide this funding.
