ECONOMIC REGULATION
AUTHORITY — MINISTER FOR ENERGY'S COMMENTS
256. Dr M.D. NAHAN to the Premier:
I refer to comments of the Minister
for Energy last week when he criticised the Economic Regulation Authority and
disputed decisions it had made with respect to the regulation of energy,
specifically ERA's efforts to limit Synergy's anti-competitive
activity. Does the Premier have confidence in the independent ERA or does he
side with his Minister for Energy and have no confidence in ERA's
decision-making?
Mr W.J. Johnston : It is not a
decision.

I am afraid that I was away last
week, and although I attempted to catch up with recent events whilst I was
away, I am unaware of the comments to which the member was referring, but I want
to assure the house that I have the utmost confidence in the Minister for
Energy.
