I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Minister for Police and Emergency Services has provided the following answer - (1)-(3) The Western Australia Police Service advises that the role of the school-based police officer was to service schools in a defined locality. However, officers were increasingly confined to the high school at which they were based, and service to other schools in their locality declined. This role is now undertaken by crime prevention officers. There are currently 48 in the metropolitan police districts and 33 in the country police districts. The community services functional review in 2001 consulted widely with a number of appropriate government agencies and a broad section of the community, including the school community.
