BEELIAR WETLANDS — roe highway stage 8
Given that the minister has not been briefed by her department and has not met with any community groups, nor, it appears, sought any other kind of briefing regarding the government’s decision to construct Roe Highway stage 8 through the environmentally sensitive Beeliar wetlands, what action is the Minister for Environment willing to take to ensure that the Beeliar wetlands are protected? Hon DONNA FARAGHER

As I have said consistently throughout today’s question time, I am aware that environmental concerns have been raised. The Minister for Transport is also aware of that and so is Main Roads. Main Roads is working on a proposal with regard to this election commitment. As I have said, any new proposal would be referred to the Environmental Protection Authority, which is the right and proper process, and the EPA would then provide advice to me.
