I refer to the WA Coastal Shipping Commission, and I ask: (a) can the Minister please provide a breakdown of the $100,000 allocated to the WA Coastal Shipping Commission over the last financial year; (b) how many staff are employed by the Commission; (c) what renumeration do the roles of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Commissioner, and General Manager attract per annum; (d) how many compensation claims from former employees has the Commission processed in each of the last ten financial years; (e) approximately how many former employees of the Commission, or any of its associated entities, are still alive today, and therefore eligible, however theoretically, to make claims going forward; (f) what plans, if any, does the Government have to formally dissolve the Commission; and (g) by the time of any planned dissolution, how much will the Government have invested in the Commission and its activities since its trading arm ceased to operate in 1995?

(a) $87,992 was spent by the Western Australian Coastal Shipping Commission last financial year, as per below:
Consumables $2,736
Insurance $4,349
Services Level Agreement $ 69,943
Professional fees $964
Audit Cost $10,000
(b) The Commission does not have any staff. The Commission’s functions are performed by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure and its staff.
(c) The Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Commissioner, and General Manager do not receive any remuneration from the Commission.
(d) Between 2015-16 and 2024-25, 11 claims were processed.
(e) This information is not collected.
(f) – (g) The Government has no plans to formally dissolve the Western Australian Coastal Shipping Commission. Although trading ceased in 1995, the Commission remains in place to maintain insurance coverage for historical compensation claims by ex-employees.
