RESPONSIBLE PARENTING ORDERS
417. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the Minister for
Child Protection:
(1) Given the
fact that for the past two years no agency has made an application under the
provisions of the Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008 for a
responsible parenting order, is the minister intending to remove these
provisions from the act?
(2) Is this
removal included in the joint agency proposal for amendment to the Parental
Support and Responsibility Act 2008 referred to in the Department for Child
Protection and Family Support's annual report?
(3) What other changes to the act
are canvassed in the joint agency proposal?
(4) Will the minister table the
joint agency proposal; and, if not, why not?

I thank the member for some notice
of this question.
(1) Amendments
are being drafted to repeal the Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008,
which will remove orders. However, provisions for responsible parenting
agreements will be transferred into the Children and Community Services Act
2004.
(2) Yes.
(3) Measures for
making responsible parenting agreements more effective are discussed in the ''Report
of the Legislative Review of the Children and Community Services Act 2004'',
which was tabled in the Legislative Council on 29 November 2012.
(4) The proposals
for repeal of the act and the introduction of responsible parenting agreements
under the Children and Community Services Act 2004 are outlined in the report
tabled in Parliament in 2012, tabled paper 5434.
