iron ore industry — downstream processing
I refer to the answer given on 13 August to question 756 about the 2006 downstream processing review. (1) What was the cost to Western Australian taxpayers of preparing this report? (2) Whilst confidential information provided by Chinese companies should not be released without their permission, what justification is there for withholding the scope of the study and/or the general conclusions? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question, which, I might add, was provided on 18 August, so it is a little out of date. (1) The overall cost of the review to WA was approximately $180 000. (2) The information can be provided after it has been cleared by the Chinese government’s national development and reform commission. Presentations have previously been made on findings of the review.
