The State Government is committed to increasing social rental housing and to taking every opportunity presented to improve housing affordability. In the 2007-08 State Budget, the Government committed an additional $417M over four years for social and affordable housing and to deliver at least 1,000 extra social housing dwellings over the next four years.
(f) As at 30 June 2007, 557 vacant properties were returning to the Department to be re-let plus a further 165 properties which were in the process of reallocation. A number of other properties were also undergoing standard vacated maintenance for prompt allocation. The 2007 Report on Government services found that Western Australia had the lowest average turnaround time; that is the lowest time taken to reoccupy public housing.
