GAMETES —
POSTHUMOUS USE
1092. Hon KATE DOUST to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the Western Australian
Reproductive Technology Council annual report 2013–14 that states that
the council has completed and provided to the minister a position statement on
the legal, ethical and social dimensions of the posthumous collection and use
of gametes.
(1) Will the minister table the
statement?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Does the
government intend introducing legislation that would enable the collection and
use of posthumous gametes?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Yes. I table the statement.
(2) Not applicable
(3) Draft
policy is being developed regarding the posthumous collection and use of
gametes to give consideration to changes to current legislation that prohibits
the posthumous use of gametes under direction 8.9 to the Human Reproductive
