280. Dr CONSTABLE to the Minister for the Environment:
I refer to an article in CALM News in February 1994 titled World Exclusive Conocurvone Contract and the Minister's answer to question on notice No. 2062 of March 2000 and ask -
(a) how much of the $5m expected for research and conservation work related to the 1993 agreement with AMRAD was received by the research consortium;
(b) how much funding has the project received each year since 1993; and
(c) what level of funding, if any, has been received for the 'nature conservation' referred to by the Premier in the article?

The Minister Replied:
(a) The $5 million was anticipated in the event of a commercially-successful product being developed from conocurvone. To date, the State has earned $1,655,000, mainly in payments for research.
(b) $1.15 million was received in 1993, $500,000 in 1994, $25,000 in 1996 and $25,000 in 1997.
(c) The $1.15 million payment was made for work already undertaken by the CALM consortium, and as a contribution towards nature conservation. CALM has allocated $300,000 of this payment to nature conservation projects.
