I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) To
ensure a coordinated approach across government, we are developing a Western Australian
climate policy to address the challenges of climate change with a road map for actions
from a state perspective. We will play our part to help Western Australia adapt
to current and projected impacts, and to protect our environment, economy and
community. The McGowan government has already commenced a wide range of
climate-related initiatives, including measures to enhance renewable energy and
strategies to secure our water supplies, accelerate the uptake of electric
vehicles and unlock our state's significant carbon sequestration
potential. A new state climate policy will draw together and build on these
measures. A directors general steering committee has been established to
support the development of a coordinated policy. As outlined by the Premier in
the other place on 12 February 2019, the policy will be developed this year and
will address both adaptation and mitigation.
