Can the minister confirm that the old Greenbushes timber mill is again up and running and employing local people? Hon N.F. MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. Yes. The Whittakers timber mill commenced operations under new ownership on 2 May 2000. The company is performing well, employing 70 full-time mill workers, 64 of whom are former employees of Whittakers; and four full-time contract security officers and six full-time contract cartage employees who also work on the site. All services for the mill are sourced locally when that is possible. The mill is converting 90 to 95 per cent of the recovered timber to value-added product.
