TRAIN STATIONS — PARKING FEES
697. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
It is good to have the parliamentary secretary back!
(1) Will all
the new machines being installed at train stations accept cash payment for the
$2 parking fee?
(2) If no to (1), how many machines at each station will
accept cash for payment of the $2 fee?
(3) Will any train stations not have capacity to accept cash
payment for parking; and, if so, which ones?
(4) How many people have registered their SmartRider cards
for SmartParker?
(5) When will
signs be installed around train stations that make it clear which parts of
informal parking areas are subject to paid parking?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question, and it is good to be back.
(1)–(2)
No. The new machines being installed at train station car parks—known
as SmartParker machines—will accept payment only by SmartRider card.
The number of Pay 'n' Display cash machines will vary by
location, depending on how many separate parking areas there are. Generally,
there will be one Pay 'n' Display machine for each car park
area.
(3) Yes;
Fremantle and Swanbourne stations. It should be noted that Fremantle station
has not had a cash payment option for a number of years.
(4) As at 25 June 2014, 17 396 passengers have registered a
total of 19 970 vehicles for SmartParker.
(5) All
signage associated with SmartParker has been installed. Informal parking areas
will not be charged the $2 parking fee until such time that the parking areas
are formalised.
