GENETICALLY
MODIFIED WHEAT — TRIALS
456. Mr P. PAPALIA to the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
I have a supplementary question. If
I am so far off the mark, why was the minister's office panicked into
calling the office of the federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and
Forestry, Joe Ludwig, this morning, seeking information in a desperate attempt
to attack me?

Mr Speaker, the only thing —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members on both sides, I would like to hear the answer to the member for
Warnbro's supplementary question.
Mr M.P. Murray interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Collie–Preston! I formally call you to order for the second
time today. I do not want to hear you when I am on my feet.
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : Thank you, Mr Speaker. The reason we call federal offices and
the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is to get quality
information to ensure that they are putting out all the right stuff when I make
a statement. What I do not do is wake up in the morning, find page 3 of The West , grab that article and run it
as hard as I can without knowing what is actually going on.
Mr P. Papalia :
That is not what they said you asked. They said you asked for information to
smash me with.
Mr D.T. REDMAN :
That is the modus operandi of the member for Warnbro in respect to agriculture
and food in Western Australia. He has asked me two questions this year, and
this is the second one. We can see where the opposition puts agriculture in its
policy settings as a potential government. We provide quality information. I am
not going to hide anything here. We support the notion of the scientific
process. We support science and the federal regulatory authorities.
Mr
A.P. O'Gorman interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Joondalup, I formally call you to order for the first time today.
