SUNSET HOSPITAL SITE — OCCUPANCY OF BUILDINGS
I refer to the lease between Leaping Joey Pty Ltd and the state government for the use of a building on the Sunset Hospital site. (1) Was a public tender process followed for the lease of this building? (2) If yes to (1), when was the tender advertised? (3) Will other buildings on the site be available for lease to other charitable organisations? (4) If yes to (3), when and how will they be advertised? (5) If no to (3), why not? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) No. The condition of the building was not suitable for leasing, given that it has been vacant for many years and was on minimum maintenance. The lease resulted from an approach from Andrew Forrest and was agreed to on the basis that it would be upgraded to a standard suitable for occupancy. (2) Not applicable. (3) Not at this stage. Without upgrading, all the buildings on the site are not suitable for occupation. It has not been decided how Sunset will be used in the longer term. Its future is dependent on identifying sustainable uses and management arrangements that can provide funding for heritage restoration, upgrade of landscaping and site services and ongoing site conservation while providing for ongoing public access, use and enjoyment of the site. (4) Not applicable. (5) Refer to (3).
