FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL — HANDBASINS
192. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the installation of
handbasins at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
(1) Can the
Minister for Health confirm that problems have been identified with handbasins
installed at Fiona Stanley Hospital that affect the proper cleaning of the
basins?
(2) If yes to (1) —
(a) what is the nature of the problem
or problems identified;
(b) how many handbasins are
potentially affected;
(c) what was the original purchase
and installation cost of the handbasins;
(d) have or will replacement handbasins
be ordered;
(e) what is the estimated or
anticipated cost of replacing the handbasins; and
(f) has the same
style basin been installed at the new Midland Public Hospital or the new Perth Children's
Hospital; and, if so, what is the estimate on replacing the basins at these
hospitals?

(1) Yes.
(2) (a) Accessibility to the drains—difficulty
removing grates—for cleaning purposes.
(b) Approximately 600.
(c) This was part of the construction
contract and not specifically defined.
(d) No,
replacement is not required as a tool to pull out the grates and clean them has
been designed and is being provided free of charge by the supplier.
(e) Not applicable.
(f) The same
style basin has been installed at St John of God Midland Public Hospital. The
issue should be able to be addressed through use of the same tool. Accordingly,
an estimate of the cost of replacing the basins is not relevant.
Perth Children's Hospital has
not procured the same style hand basins as Fiona Stanley Hospital has.
