This question relates to National Party policy. Does the National Party support the Kimberley tidal power project? Mr COWAN

The National Party supports any renewable energy project. It supports the Derby tidal power project on the condition that, if it is to be utilised as an energy provider for Western Australia, it must meet the criteria set by the Minister for Energy. The Federal Government and Environment Australia are conducting a feasibility study of the project. Mr Ripper: As well as Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation Limited and KPMG. Mr COWAN: Yes. Those companies are working to identify the feasibility of the project and will recommend how much money the Federal Government should provide for it. I understand that about $80m is required from the Federal Government for the project to be even economically viable. If funding is approved, the risk issues associated with the delivery of energy from the power-generating site - Docker Creek - through the Kimberley on a grid system also need to be resolved. Those issues have not yet been resolved, but I am sure the federal feasibility study will help to do that.
