The Rottnest Island Management Plan (RIMP) 2009-14 is consistent with the
Rottnest Island Authority Act 1987
(the Act). All policies and initiatives espoused in the RIMP are intended to support the functions of the Rottnest Island Authority as specified in the Act. The Act requires that the Rottnest Island Authority should be self sustaining financially.
Ecotourism and a commercial focus, including partnering with private business, are intended to support the functions of the Authority set out in Section 11 of the Act. The guiding principles for policies, planning decisions and operations of the Rottnest Island Authority and its partners listed on page 23 of the RIMP reiterate the functions of the Authority.
The Rottnest Island Authority is required to perform in a business-like manner in order to be financially self-supporting.
