Tobacco—Illegal supply
551. Ms Libby Mettam to
the Minister for Health:
I refer to the Illicit Tobacco and Illicit Vape Retailer Audit released today by the Australian Council on Smoking and Health. Has the
Department of Health confirmed that there are 51 retail outlets selling illegal
tobacco or vapes in the Perth metropolitan area and, if not, why not?

I thank the member
for the question. The report speaks for itself in terms of its findings. It
provides a picture of the sale—
Ms Libby Mettam interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Vasse, you asked the question.
Allow the minister to respond.
Ms Meredith Hammat: It provides a picture of access to
illegal cigarettes and vapes that is very sobering. The Department of Health
undertakes a range of compliance activities. The work that it does is not the
same work that ACOSH does, but I do meet with ACOSH regularly and we talk about
the work that it is doing on enforcement, and we will continue to do that.
