LAND TAX ACT — OVERHAUL
144. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the
Treasurer:
I refer to the current Treasurer's statement on 19 September
last year that he had decided to do a major overhaul of the Land Tax Act,
including the issue of treating owner-produced secondary processing for land
tax purposes, and that the report would come out later that year.
(1) Has the report been undertaken and has the report been
released?
(2) Was there any public consultation on this major overhaul?
(3) Will it be ready for the 2014–15 year, as claimed
by him last year?

I thank the member for West Swan for the question.
(1)–(3)
That issue has been around for a long time, as I think the member would know.
It is a major issue. Treasury has been finding some difficulty with it, because
it cannot be treated alone. Treasury has done a great deal of work. When I said
that, I was in my previous capacity as Minister for Finance —
Several members interjected.
Dr M.D. NAHAN :
Okay. I was the finance minister, and the review was being done by the
Treasurer. I am now the Treasurer. The review has been finished and will go out
for community consultation, and a policy will be expected to be released soon
thereafter.
