KWINANA OUTER HARBOUR —
DESALINATION PLANT
1489. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Water:
I refer to the Water Corporation's
submission to the Environmental Protection Authority regarding Perth seawater
desalination plant 2 at Kwinana and to item 2.4, ''Known Developments in
Cockburn Sound''.
(1) Why was no
reference made to the outer harbour, given the commitment of the government to
start construction of the outer harbour in this term of government?
(2) Will the development of an outer harbour impact on
the operation of the current desalination plant in Kwinana?
(3) Will the
development of an outer harbour impact on the operation of the proposed new
desalination plant at Kwinana?
Sorry, I asked
that twice; I will get the answer twice!
Hon Stephen
Dawson : To be sure, to be sure!
Hon PETER
COLLIER : Cheers, cheers!
(4) Has the Water
Corporation raised any concerns with the minister on the impact of a new outer
harbour on either the current desalination plant or a future desalination
plant; and, if yes, what are those concerns?

I thank the member for the
question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for
Water.
(1) The premise
of this question is entirely wrong. Firstly, there has been no commitment to
start construction of an outer harbour in
this term of government. Secondly, the referral document includes multiple
references to the outer harbour.
(2)–(3) The design for the
outer harbour has not been finalised.
(4) The Water
Corporation has discussed the proposed development with the minister, noting
that the final design has not been determined.
