I refer to Buru Energy’s Yulleroo 2
well in the Canning Basin, which was fracked in 2010, and I ask: (a) is the Minister aware that the well experienced water influx during flow tests; (b) what was the cause of the water influx; (c) at what depth was water influx occurring; (d) which aquifer was the water coming from; (e) did the Department of Mines and Petroleum provide advice to Buru Energy or its contractors on how to solve the problem of water influx; (f) if no to (e), why not; (g) if yes to (e), will the Minister table the advice; (h) if no to (g), why not; (i) what action did Buru Energy take to stop the water influx; (j) will the Minister table any reports or correspondence from Buru Energy that describes the action they took to prevent water influx in the well; (k) if no to (j), why not; (l) has well integrity testing been done since the fracking in 2010; (m) if no to (i), why not; (n) if yes to (i), will the Minister table the results; and (o) if no to (n), why not?

Answer as at 20 October 2016:
(a) Yes.
(b) Saline formation water from the test interval flowing into the well.
(c) 2850 to 3100 metres.
(d) The Anderson/Laurel formation.
(e) No.
(f) It was a normal flow of saline water from the test interval and therefore did not require Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) advice.
(g) Not applicable.
(h) Not applicable.
(i) The well was shut-in following the flow tests.
(j) No.
(k) No specific report was provided in relation to the water influx. This was a standard industry flow test and the well was shut-in at the completion of the test. Reports on the well flow test are publicly available through the DMP’s website.
(l) Yes.
(m) Not applicable.
(n) Details of well integrity testing are contained in the “ Investigation Factual Report: Leak of Gas at Yulleroo-2 ” tabled in response to Questions on Notice 4424.
(o) Not applicable.
