The Minister for Environment has provided the following response.
Landfill operators are required to report on waste received to the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC).
(1) As the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) operates a regional resource recovery facility rather than a landfill, it does not report on waste to DEC. However, DEC has been advised by the SMRC that it disposed the following quantities of waste to landfill:
(a) 39,078 tonnes
(b) 36,614 tonnes.
(2) The Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) operates a waste transfer station and disposes of its waste at the Tamala Park and Red Hill landfills, which report on waste received to DEC:
(a) 28,530 tonnes
(b) 24,599 tonnes.
(3)Rivers Regional Council did not provide waste disposal services in 2009/10 or 2010/11. Each local government within this regional council made its own arrangements for waste collection and disposal.
(4) - (5) No landfill levy was retained as landfill operators are required to pay the landfill levy in full each quarter.
