QuestionView source ↗
In view of the Government’s decision not to proceed with the premium property tax and to allocate an additional $5 million to the Western Australian Tourist Commission, will the minister advise the House where the funds to facilitate these decisions will come from? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS
AnswerView source ↗
I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The Government has already announced that the $12 million revenue shortfall in 2001-02 arising from the decision not to proceed with the premium land tax will be accommodated by saving $2 million through additional cuts in consultancy and advertising expenditure, deferring for one year $5 million in expenditure from the $25 million allocated to the regional investment fund this year, deferring for one year $4 million of expenditure from the $6.53 million allocated to the Innovate WA fund this year, deferring for one year $500 000 in expenditure from the $1.25 million allocated to the contemporary music program, and delaying by nine months the implementation of a new native title program saving $500 000. Hon Norman Moore interjected. Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS: The honourable member asks a question and one thinks he would have the decency to listen to the answer before he raises silly interjections. The PRESIDENT: Order, members! There will be no supplementary questions. Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS: The decision to drop the proposed tax will have an impact on the forward estimates and this will be addressed in the next budget. With regard to the funding of an additional - Hon N.F. Moore: So you are bringing it in again. Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS: Does the member want to hear the answer or will he carry on being his usual rude, non-humorous self? With regard to the funding of an additional $5 million for the Tourist Commission, the moneys will be sourced from regional development schemes.
