The Western Australian assisted basketball in schools program has delivered tangible benefits to both Indonesia and Western Australia. The Department of Sport and Recreation has worked closely with Basketball WA to bring to Perth the All-Stars Junior Boys and Girls Deteski Basketball teams from Indonesia in October 2008.
Benefits include:
· Early exposure of WA's sub-elite level players to international competition and acceleration of their development.
· Provision of technical expertise through coaching in WA to assist the Indonesian players to improve their performance.
· Opportunity to showcase Western Australia and export our coaching and sport administrative expertise.
· On-going print and television exposure of Western Australia in Indonesia through the media crew that accompanied the team.
· Use of enhanced media exposure generated for Western Australia by the Department of State Development to progress its business networks and commercial initiatives in Indonesia.
