YARRAGADEE AQUIFER, EXTRACTION OF GROUND WATER
I refer the minister to the Premier’s announcement today about the Government’s plan to invest in three more bores for extracting ground water from the Yarragadee aquifer. (1) Has the Water and Rivers Commission given approval for the extraction of the additional 15 gigalitres? (2) If so, when was the approval given? (3) If not, is the Government not misleading the public by claiming that it is dealing with the water supply problem when in fact it is not yet in a position to extract the extra water? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS

(1)-(3) The Government is not misleading the public at all. The Government is showing leadership in dealing with this very important issue. I hope that members opposite recognise that. We do not want to play politics with the State’s water supplies, but the extraction is subject to appropriate approvals being granted.
