I refer to the substantial investments made by private enterprise and supported by grants from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation to construct at least three dedicated facilities in Perth to recycle end-of-life-tyres and other rubber waste, including conveyer belts, and I ask:(a) what consideration is being given to restrict the disposal of tyres and other rubber waste in regional areas, and what further condition might be given in future to restricting mining companies from landfill disposal of the thousands of tonnes of haul truck tyres and conveyer belt rubber on their operating leases?

The Recycling Modernisation Fund (RMF) is a partnership between the Commonwealth, State Government and industry, that is expanding Australia's capacity to sort, process and remanufacture plastic, tyres, paper and cardboard. The RMF demonstrates how Governments and businesses can bring about critical new infrastructure that will play a key role in Australia's transition towards a circular economy. Through partnering with industry, over 175,000 tonnes of new tyre recycling capacity has been unlocked creating 111 jobs across the State.
Western Australia (WA) has led national investigations into end-of-life tyres which will be used to inform measures to improve the recovery of tyres, particularly off-the-road and mining tyres. The State Government continues to engage and work with States and Territories, industry stakeholders, and the recyclers of tyres and other waste types to find approaches to increase resource recovery and reuse opportunities in WA.
