833. Mr RIEBELING to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Justice:
(1) How many prisoners have escaped from Hakea Prison, Canning Vale since 1 July 2000?
(2) Has the amalgamation of Canning Vale Prison and the C.W. Campbell Remand Centre caused the security to be less effective?
(3) Has the amalgamation of these two prisons caused the resulting single prison to have two different physical perimeter barriers?
(4) Has the amalgamation of these two prisons caused the resulting single prison to have two different and independently operated electronic detection systems on the boundary?
(5) Did the Ministry of Justice receive security advice that the concrete wall which divided the two joined prisons be left in place and a management gate be installed in it?
(6) Was that advice -
(a) accepted; or
(b) rejected or ignored; or
(c) not acted upon?
(7) If so, why?
(8) Was the vehicle which was used to crash through the wire fence taken from the part of the prison which had originally been enclosed by the concrete wall?
(9) Who made the decision to remove the concrete wall that resulted in prisoners being able to remove a vehicle from one part of the prison whose boundary is a concrete wall to another part surrounded by a wire fence, and then drive it through the fence?
(10) How many escapes have taken place from Casuarina Prison?
(11) Did that prisoner escape by concealing himself in a vehicle?
(12) Was the Superintendent of Casuarina Prison removed from his position at some time after the escape?
(13) If so, why?
(14) How long had he been the Superintendent of Casuarina Prison at the time of his removal?
