The Department of Justice advises that the following provides details of assaults on prison staff for the 2004/05 year. Period 2004/05 Assault: 25 Serious Assault: 4 All assault data for 2004/05 has been audited according to the Council of Australian Government (COAG) definitions see below. As a result the above figures vary from year-to-date figures. Definitions: Assault An act of physical violence or a physical injury detected which may or may not require short-term medical intervention of a non-hospitalised nature. Serious Includes all acts of sexual assault and is an act of physical violence, Assault which results in actual bodily harm which: ? Requires medical treatment/assessment by a medical officer resulting in overnight hospitalisation in a medical facility (e.g., prison clinic/infirmary/hospital or a public hospital); and ? Requires extended periods of ongoing medical treatment
