I thank the member for bringing this matter to the attention of the house and me. I admit that I had absolutely no idea, prior to the question being asked, that different systems applied in different electorate offices, and apparently there is a historical basis to that. Nevertheless, I shall provide the information that I have been given as a response. (1) Forty-seven Labor members are supplied with the Electrac database system and 43 Liberal, National, Greens and Independent members’ electorate offices are supplied with the election management database system - EMS. I do not know the virtues of either system, but, as I said, there are historical issues related to that. (2) The Western Australian Electoral Commission provides the information for both the Electrac system, supplied by Magenta Linas Software Pty Ltd, and the EMS system, supplied by Consultech Engineering Services Pty Ltd. The information provided by the Western Australian Electoral Commission excludes birth dates. (3) One, and that is obviously a recently Independent member who was formerly a Labor member. (4) At the time the contract was awarded in March 2006, the estimated cost for the Electrac system was $157 000 a year.
