PROPOSED BUSSELTON EDUCATION PLAN
In view of the fact that - (a) primary school enrolment figures for Dunsborough Primary School, which is one of three expanding primary schools in the area, have increased by 11 per cent for the past three years; and (b) the current plan for the Shire of Busselton will be inadequate to cope with the current growth and absorb the Dunsborough-Yallingup students into accessible secondary schooling will the minister review the proposed education plan for the Busselton region, in particular the obvious and urgent need for a secondary school to be built in Dunsborough? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. No. I am advised that the current enrolment growth at Dunsborough Primary School is insufficient to warrant a review of the secondary education plan for the Busselton-Dunsborough area. Enrolments at Dunsborough Primary School have increased from 396 students in 2004 to 414 students in 2005. A local area education plan has been developed in recent years for the Busselton-Dunsborough area. Substantial community consultation occurred in the preparation of the plan. The proposal to establish a new secondary school in Vasse in 2007 has been strongly supported by the community. Secondary students resident in Dunsborough and Yallingup will be entitled to attend the new school in Vasse when it is opened in 2007. Hon Barry House : That is the bureaucrats’ response. Will you have a look at it as the new minister? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH : Sure. I will have a look at it.
