HILTON HOTEL — KARRATHA — PREFERRED
PROPONENT
697. Mr B.S. WYATT to the Minister for
Lands:
I have a supplementary question.
Noting the minister's comments about the due diligence process, when
the former Minister for Lands announced ''this significant investment
decision by Hilton'', was the government aware that a director of
Ramtron had previously been associated with hotels in Margaret River, Cape
Leeuwin, Ningaloo and Beaufort Street, none of which eventuated?

I cannot comment on the detail of
the process that LandCorp went through. I can only say that it is LandCorp's
core business. It is a government developer. It is involved with those sites
and it does it every day a week. Of course, there has been a significant change
in the market in Karratha; I think everyone recognises that.
Mr
P.B. Watson interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Albany!
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : I am confident that there is interest in that site. This
government has put a lot of effort into development in regional Western
Australia, and a lot of effort into development in the Pilbara region. I think
what has happened in Karratha is testament to the efforts of this government,
and we are not going to resile from that.
