JUDICIAL COMMISSION
867. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I thank the Attorney for the answer
he provided yesterday on the timeframe for the establishment of a judicial commission, promised by the government since 2022.
I attempt to better understand that body's anticipated workload.
(1) How many
complaints have been received by the Department of Justice and/or the Attorney
General against judicial officers over the course of this current Parliament?
(2) If possible,
can the Attorney break down those complaints by courts to which each complaint
referred?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Attorney
General.
(1)–(2) A manual search of individual records received by the
Attorney General's office and the Department of Justice raising
complaints against judicial officers would need to be undertaken in order to
ascertain this information. Formal complaints against judicial officers are
dealt with in accordance with the Protocol for complaints against judicial
officers in Western Australian courts . Neither the Department of Justice
nor the Attorney General have access to data regarding complaints made about
judicial officers under the protocol.
