866. Ms ANWYL to the Minister for Police:
I refer to the Child Abuse Unit of the Police Service and ask -
(a) how many police officers are employed in this unit and what are their respective ranks;
(b) are there any plans to alter the number of police officers employed in this unit;
(c) is the Minister aware of rumours that the Child Abuse Unit is to be closed; and
(d) will the Minister categorically state that the Child Abuse Unit will continue with its current complement of police officers?

The Minister Replied:
(a) Due to operational sensitivities, I am not prepared to provide specific information relating to staffing levels of individual units. However, the authorised strength for the Major Crime Division is 135 sworn FTEs and 8 unsworn FTEs.
(b) There are no current plans to alter the number of police officers employed in the Unit.
(c) The Crime Investigation Support portfolio administration is not aware of rumours that the Child Abuse Unit is to be closed.
(d) The Crime Investigation Support portfolio administration has no plans to alter the current compliment of police officers with this Unit.
