A WA parliamentary question on notice inquires about the number of library staff in WA government schools from 2007-2011, the existence of staffing requirements, and the Minister's role in promoting teacher librarians. The response indicates a decline in teacher librarians, stable library technician numbers, and fluctuating library officer numbers. The Minister states staffing decisions are the Department's responsibility.

(7)-(11) Staffing decisions are made by the Department of Education. The
Public Sector Management Act 1994
requires the Department to act independently of the Minister in matters pertaining to human resource management and operational procedures.  As I support greater flexibility for schools to choose the staffing profile that best meets their needs, it would not be appropriate for a Minister to promote the use of any position over another position.
