On behalf of the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Transport, I thank the member for some notice of
this question and provide the following response —
(1) The Public
Transport Authority engaged WorleyParsons in August 2014 to undertake a review
of tier 3 rail lines to determine the physical conditions of those lines.
(2) There is a
significant amount of investment required for each of the tier 3 rail lines to
make them fit for purpose, and that investment is the subject of ongoing
negotiations between Co-operative Bulk Handling Ltd and Brookfield Rail under
the rail access regime. The Public Transport Authority would estimate this cost
to be at least $100 million.
