I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Minister for Police and Emergency Services has provided the following answer - (1) A number of key strategies are in place in Meekatharra, including a “no tolerance” approach to antisocial behaviour; the officer in charge proactively interacting with other agencies in the town in an effort to identify collaborative solutions to law and order issues; and the officer-in-charge position being upgraded to senior sergeant. (2) Yes. The table below shows figures for reported burglaries for the period 1 July to 31 March. I seek leave to table the table and have it incorporated in Hansard . Leave granted. [See paper 1523.] The following material was incorporated - Previous year to date Current year to date Change from previous to current year to date 2004/05 2005/06 No % Dwelling 142 92 -50 -35.2 Other 60 52 -8 -13.3 Total 202 144 -58 -28.7 (3) Yes. (4) Police in the mid-west Gascoyne district are working closely with the community and other agencies to reduce the incidence of crime. This involves the development and implementation of a number of interagency strategies such as the Burglar Beware program. In addition, a “no tolerance” approach to antisocial behaviour is adopted.
