I refer to Budget Paper No. 2, Volume 1 at page 275 "Attendance", dot point one, and ask: (a) does every school currently have a dedicated staff officer to manage school attendance; (b) if no to (a), which schools do have a dedicated staff officer to manage school attendance and is this a full time position; and (c) will these dedicated staff officers be cut as a result of the education budget cuts?

(a)-(b) Every teacher in every school has a responsibility for student attendance. Schools make decisions about how to best meet the specific attendance needs of their students and may formally designate a staff member as a badged attendance officer. Badged attendance officers are legally authorised to stop, detain and question truanting or absent students during school hours. As at 30 October 2013, there were 250 badged attendance officers in schools.
(c) Not applicable.
