emergency services levy — increase
I refer to the government’s one million taxpayer-funded pamphlets that attempted to justify its 18 per cent increase in the emergency services levy. (1) If this justification is so strong, why has the government reduced its own funding to the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia? (2) Does this not make the increase in the ESL just another sneaky tax grab? Mr C.J. BARNETT

I would happily take that question on notice. Mr E.S. Ripper : You’re the Treasurer. Mr C.J. BARNETT : If the member wants an answer now, I suggest that she ask the minister responsible for FESA. Ms M.M. Quirk : I already have and I haven’t got a decent answer.
