Synergy and the Office of Energy have provided the Minister for Energy with the following response.
(1) No. Synergy does not capture such data. It is point in time data which is subject to change.
(2) While approximately 300 premises have been disconnected in the past ninety days (at the time the answer was provided), it does not mean there are 300 occupied households without power. Some households have been reconnected since the answer was provided. In addition, historically, once a premise has been disconnected for a week or more, the majority of them will be empty with the customer vacating the property.
(3) There is no legislative duty of care or special duty of care towards children in these circumstances. There is an obligation to act reasonably and in accordance with any relevant statutory power.
(4) To answer this question would require individual analysis of each account, and Synergy is not prepared to divert the significant resources required to provide the requested information.
