All generation systems, including photovoltaic and wind systems, that can export electricity to a third party also need to obtain approval to generate from the Co-ordinator of Energy (under Section 7 of the Electricity Act 1945). Generation systems that cannot export electricity to a third party do not require approval from either Western Power or the Co-ordinator of Energy, but must be installed in accordance with the Electricity Act 1945. (2) Western Power charges a fee of $107 for assessing applications to install grid-interactive photovoltaic or wind energy generation systems serving residences. There are no fees involved in seeking or obtaining approval to generate from the Coordinator of Energy.
